1. Installing Mate 1.10.0 in Linux Mint
In order to install Mate 1.10.0 in your Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" . We'll just need to update the local repository index using the below command then install the complete mate desktop for Linux Mint by running the following command.
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install mint-meta-mate
2. Installing Mate 1.10.0 in Fedora
If you are running Fedora 22 in your machine and wanna install the latest version of mate ie 1.10.0. Then you can simply do that by the help of dnf package manager.
$ sudo dnf groupinstall mate-desktop
If you are running previous versions of fedora and don't have dnf command available. You can simply use the yum package manager as shown below.
$ sudo yum groupinstall mate-desktop
3. Installing Mate 1.10.0 in OpenSuse
If you are running OpenSuse, you can install mate from ncurse YaST. But if you wanna go with zypper and command line stuff, you can run the following command in the terminal.

You can also use zypper with pattern if you are running the latest version of OpenSuse ie 13.2 and above as shown below.
$ sudo zypper in -t pattern mate_basis
After done with installing it in your OpenSuse, you'll need to add mate-session in the window manager. To do so, we'll run YaST and go to System ->/etc/sysconfig Editor then go to Desktop ->Window Manager ->DEFAULT_WM and add mate-session in it the reboot to choose Mate as the session in the login screen.
4. Installing Mate 1.10.0 in Arch Linux
If you are running Arch Linux as your operating system in your machine. You can use pacman package manager and install mate. Here is the commands on how you can install it in Arch Linux.
$ sudo pacman -Syy mate mate-extra
After installing it, we'll need to install and configure some other related packages to get certain functionality to work, and will enable compositing and new window centering.
$ pacman -Syy lightdm-gtk2-greeter accountsservice
$ systemctl enable lightdm
$ systemctl enable accounts-daemon
$ pacman -S mate-settings-daemon-gstreamer mate-media-gstreamer
$ dconf write /org/mate/marco/general/compositing-manager true
$ dconf write /org/mate/marco/general/center-new-windows true

Mate is really an awesome desktop environment to get into work. It is a beautiful neat and clean desktop environment for better performance and customization. It has many new features added and maintained with more refinements. The development of MATE is a continuous process of addition of new features with the latest technology and removal of old unwanted stuffs. The design of MATE's panel seems alike to gnome 2.
